Phillip Rau, 74 years old, died at 10 a.m. today at his home in Dutchtown. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 o'clock a.m., interment being in Zion Lutheran church south of Gordonville.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, William, Louis and Albert, and one daughter, Mrs. Emma Keller, all living on the Cape Girardeau-Whitewater road within a distance of a few miles. He also leaves five grandchildren.
Phillip Rau was born June 18, 1847, on board ship on the Atlantic ocean just three days before reaching the American shore.
He was confirmed a member of the Lutheran church at Cape Girardeau, May 1, 1871.
He was married March 11, 1873, to Miss Augusta Bohnsack. Seven children were born of the marriage, three dying in infancy.

     One of them translated a letter written in 1899 from the brother of my great-grandfather, Heinrich "Henry" Felbinger. Henry Felbinger's brother lived in Haieshausen in 1899. When Henry Felbinger enlisted in the Civil War, he said he was born in Golmbach, Germany, in 1831. I think his family moved from Golmbach to Haieshausen before Henry sailed to America in the 1850's. I think Henry Felbinger came with his sister, Henriette, in 1856. Henry's brother and his sister, Johanna, stayed in Germany. (I do not know the name of their parents.) Then in Cape Girardeau Henry met and married
